A delightful tour through the instruments of the orchestra with Benjamin Britten’s A Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra.

One of the best-loved works in classical music, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending, inspired by English folk tunes, creating a glorious pastoral image of a bird in flight on a clear day.

Elgar’s Enigma, a musical reflection of his day, with fourteen variations on a hidden theme, including one of the most emotionally profound and magnificent works of all time - Nimrod.

These timeless English orchestral masterpieces will be conducted by MSO’s Chief Conductor, Jaime Martín, and feature Tair Khisambeev on Violin.

This concert is part of the MSO’s new Meet the Music Series for secondary schools - an exciting array of incredible performers and some of the best orchestral repertoire out there including much-loved works by Holst, Gershwin, Elgar, and Tchaikovsky. You can enjoy the below digital pre-concert talk with James Le Fevre, Head of Music at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS), to help prepare students for the performance.
