Lupin Botanical

I'm Domenica, designer and founder of the Lupin Botanical flower studio; a heartland and place to create beautiful and unique floral art.

I grew up first generation in an Italian/Australian family, surrounded by the scent and texture of dried tobacco leaves and summer grasses at the family property. As kids we spent long, hot days exploring the farm and swimming in the river with cousins. Late night dinners with extended family and an abundance of mediterranean food followed. Sun ripened figs, bread, nuts and homemade vino were shared, and we kids popped the Lupins in brine from their skins, aiming them at each other. It's a place and time where my creative life was nurtured.

After those days, I travelled through Europe and Asia, and lived for many years in the inner city suburbs of Melbourne. There I studied and worked as a visual artist and creative at places like the VCA, and local council art departments, museums and galleries. The time came to get back to working with my hands, and I fell in love with the process of selecting and curating the most beautiful and unique flowers, branches and foliages, going on to found Lupin Botanical.

I have a Bachelors Degree in fine art and exhibit botanical watercolour works. My fine art background informs my floral design. I am a qualified, award winning florist and advocate of sustainable floristry, working floral foam free and buying local product. I live and work in the beachside town of Frankston East, on the traditional lands of the Bunurong/Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation.
